Wimbledon Adopts Video Review Technology in 2025.

Wimbledon tennis court with replay technology

Wimbledon will follow the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing video review technology.

Replay systems will be launched at The Championships for the 2025 edition.

Players will gain the option to question certain decisions from the chair umpire, mirroring the system already in place at both the US Open and the Aussie major.

The new system will be accessible on Centre Court and the number one court throughout the Championships and on the other four featured courts when they are staging singles matches.

This step comes just a year after the All England Club implemented electronic line calling, which terminated the longstanding role of line judges.

Scope of Challenges

Players will not be permitted to dispute the call of the ELC system, but are allowed to request the umpire to review other situations, such as:

  • If a tennis ball has bounced twice.
  • If a shot touched an opponent's racquet or person during play.
  • Potential hindrance at the conclusion of a rally.

Notably, there is no limit on the number of challenges a player can initiate.

Practical Application

A recent example occurred in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.

The British player conceded it was a difficult call for the umpire, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations quite well."

The umpire viewed a replay and ruled Draper was guilty of interference, granting the point to Medvedev.

Broader Adoption

This technology are not new for major tournaments. The system was adopted at the US Open for two years and the Aussie Open since 2025.

Furthermore, it is becoming more common on the women’s WTA Tour, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have the system in place at all of its events.

Other Changes

A further change at The Championships 2025 involves the addition of visual indicators on scoreboards to complement the audio calls from the ELC system.

This solves situations where fans have occasionally been unsure if a ball was in or out.

Finally, with precisely a century of days remaining until the start of the tournament, the AELTC have also announced an increase in daily capacity at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
